About the position

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator in a dynamic research program aimed at improving community-based strategies and behavioral treatments for individuals experiencing early stages of psychosis, including those with co-occurring substance use disorders. The role involves addressing disparities among racially and ethnically minoritized and underserved populations, and collaborating with other behavioral health researchers as part of the PRISM Collaborative.

Responsibilities

  • Define research problems, approaches, or hypotheses and methodology.
  • Design specific phases of research projects.
  • Carry out complex analyses (qualitative, quantitative, mixed-methods).
  • Analyze results and develop conclusions and hypotheses.
  • Present research findings in publishable form.
  • Assist in the coordination of ongoing research projects.
  • Publish key results in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Assist the PI and other investigators with scientific development, data analyses, and grant writing.
  • Seek extramural research funding.
  • Participate in didactic training opportunities offered at WSU.

Requirements

  • An earned terminal degree in public health, psychology, social work, sociology, medicine, or a related field.
  • Experience authoring professional presentations or peer-reviewed publications.
  • Experience preparing technical reports and manuscripts.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding ethics and confidentiality in dealing with scientific data and results.
  • Aptitude for academic rigor using qualitative, quantitative, and/or mixed-methods.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (e.g., SharePoint, PowerPoint).
  • Experience developing, managing, or maintaining research databases (e.g., REDCap).
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience conducting mental health services and community-based participatory research.
  • Excellent scientific writing and oral expression skills.
  • Experience analyzing scientific data using Stata, R, SPSS, NVivo, or Atlas.ti.
  • Experience managing research studies.
  • Experience with online surveys or databases.
  • Experience preparing reports to NIH and IRBs.
