This position is to hire a postdoctoral fellow for a fully-funded position, supported by NIH grants. The fellow will work at the Sofer lab at the CadioVascular Institute (CVI), Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School. The postdoctoral fellow will develop and apply statistical and computational methods utilizing genetic and omics data to understand health and disease phenotypes in admixed populations. While specific project will vary and be adapted to the interests of the specific fellow (within the scope of the grants funding the lab), the fellow will be expected to use and apply genetic data, including local genetic ancestry, to develop methods and perform association analyses. Current areas of methodological development and applications in the group include genetic association analyses, variance components models, polygenic risk scores development, and data integration. Data types include genetics, metabolomics, RNA-seq, proteomics, and methylation. The fellow will work collaboratively with a diverse group of experts in statistics, bioinformatics, genetics, and epidemiology. They will have opportunities for mentorship of students. The candidate will ideally have background in handling large genetic data, familiarity with statistical genetics models, interest in the study of admixed populations, and in developing computational and statistical methods. Doctoral degree in Biostatistics, Population Genetics, Computational Genomics, Genetic Epidemiology, Computer Science, or equivalent, is required. Start date is flexible, and around summer 2025.
