About the position

The Postdoctoral Research Scholar in Bioarchaeology and Dental Anthropology at Arizona State University will contribute to NSF-funded projects focusing on human adaptation during the African Humid Period and the management of dental phenotypes. The role involves developing independent research while supporting ongoing projects, with opportunities for teaching and collaboration in a dynamic academic environment.

Responsibilities

• Help manage the resources and daily lab activities of the Dental Phenomics Project and/or the Gobero Bioarchaeology Project.
• Collect image and scan data using the latest technology.
• Develop existing research questions and novel research directions using project resources in consultation with project Principal Investigators.
• Collaborate on the preparation of publications and the general dissemination of knowledge generated from the project.
• Contribute to the teaching mission of the School in consultation with the faculty mentor and the SHESC Director.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in anthropology or related fields by the time of appointment.
• Experience in bioarchaeology and dental anthropology.
• Applicants must be within five years of receipt of their Ph.D. to be considered.

Nice-to-haves

• Laboratory experience in basic bioarchaeological data management, photography, and paleopathology methods.
• Skills in image-based data collection and scan-based data extraction.
• Quantitative skills, especially in application to large, complex datasets.
• Experience working independently and collaboratively in a team.
• Prior teaching experience, particularly in an online modality.
• Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty, staff, students and communities to advance the principles of the ASU Charter.
