About the position

The University of Washington is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar to support the NMFS eDNA Integrated Fisheries Survey. This role focuses on collaborating with researchers to apply environmental DNA (eDNA) data for quantitative conservation and fisheries applications. The position emphasizes modeling and analysis rather than generating new eDNA data, and it aims to enhance the integration of eDNA with traditional survey data to inform management-relevant ecological questions.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with NOAA science staff on eDNA projects, including data management and analysis.
  • Develop statistical methods to combine eDNA data with traditional survey data.
  • Communicate results through publications and presentations.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Ecology, Fisheries Science, Quantitative Ecology, Applied Statistics, or a related field at the time of appointment.
  • Proficiency in R, Python, or equivalent programming language.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Stan or related probabilistic programming languages.
  • Experience with GitHub for project collaboration.
  • Familiarity with Markdown or other software to support reproducible workflows.
