About the position

The PostgreSQL DBA position at BCforward involves managing PostgreSQL database systems for the Forward Networks tool. The role requires a highly motivated individual to ensure optimal database performance, security, and integrity while performing regular maintenance and backups. This is a contract position with a hybrid work model, requiring a self-starter who can work independently and effectively communicate with team members.

Responsibilities

• Create database objects such as triggers and indexes.
• Monitor database performance and ensure optimum performance.
• Identify and resolve potential database issues early.
• Maintain backups and perform disaster recovery.
• Monitor security and prevent unauthorized access to the database.
• Schedule consistent maintenance on the server.
• Maintain database schema and manage database availability.
• Provide best practice guidance for database management.
• Resolve production data issues and manage tablespace and role management.
• Develop automation technologies to accelerate data loading processes.
• Develop relational databases and ensure data integrity.
• Manage user access and permissions by adding and removing users as required.
• Maintain the database using various utilities.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in PostgreSQL Database Administration.
• Skilled in monitoring and maintaining databases, optimizing performance, and ensuring security.
• Experience with database performance tuning and maintaining regular backups.
• Proficient in data modeling and creating visual representations of databases.
• Knowledge of Linux/Unix Server Administration and Active Directory.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent technical training.
• Self-starter with a focus on execution, delivery, and commitment to deadlines.
• Familiarity with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile Project delivery.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence others.
• Organized, detail-oriented, and possesses strong technical acumen.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in financial services (Insurance, Banking, Investment banking) is a plus.
