As a Postgres Database Administrator at AMERICAN SYSTEMS, you will play a crucial role in managing and supporting PostgreSQL databases within an AWS Cloud environment. This position requires a Secret clearance and involves working closely with a team of highly skilled professionals. You will be expected to provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) support for PostgreSQL, ensuring that the database management and lifecycle support are effectively implemented in a collaborative engineering tools environment. Your responsibilities will include converting existing databases to meet new release requirements, evaluating the effectiveness of database management technology, and investigating problems and inefficiencies in a well-established database environment. In this role, you will determine the impact of new or revised software on system operations and applications, investigating factors such as storage space consumption, access times, and the frequency of reads and writes. You will also evaluate alternatives and initiate corrective actions to recover or restore data, ensuring that the system returns to normal operations. Daily operations will involve administering database maintenance, ensuring efficient data collection, storage, and processing, and running utility routines to monitor computer performance. Security is a key aspect of this role, as you will develop and maintain security procedures to guard against unauthorized access to databases. Additionally, you will analyze the use of archived data and develop strategies to optimize the use of existing systems. Providing assistance to programmers and analysts in program development, testing, and implementation of modified programs will also be part of your responsibilities.
