About the position

We are seeking a Senior Database Developer/Engineer with extensive experience in PostgreSQL and Amazon Aurora to join our team in Mountain View, CA. This hybrid position requires you to work in the office two days a week. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database development and engineering, with a focus on production environments. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining database systems that support our applications and services. Your expertise in SQL tuning and AWS services will be crucial in optimizing performance and ensuring the reliability of our database solutions. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand their database needs and provide solutions that meet those requirements. You will also be involved in automating processes using scripting languages such as Python and Bash, enhancing our operational efficiency. A solid understanding of database security concepts and best practices is essential, as you will be responsible for safeguarding our data assets. As a Senior Database Developer/Engineer, you will be expected to demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Strong communication and collaboration skills are necessary to work effectively within a team environment. You will play a key role in mentoring junior team members and contributing to the overall success of our database initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain PostgreSQL and Amazon Aurora database systems.
• Optimize database performance through SQL tuning techniques.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather database requirements and provide solutions.
• Automate database processes using scripting languages such as Python and Bash.
• Ensure database security by implementing best practices and security measures.
• Mentor junior team members and provide guidance on database development and engineering practices.

Requirements

• Overall experience of 10-12 years in database development or engineering.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience working with Amazon Aurora and/or PostgreSQL in a production environment.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with SQL tuning techniques.
• Proficiency in AWS services such as EC2, Route 53, VPC, IAM, and CloudFormation.
• Hands-on experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation.
• Familiarity with database security concepts and best practices.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Nice-to-haves

• AWS Certification
• Experience with other AWS database services such as RDS.
• Knowledge of containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
