About the position

The AWS RDS Database Engineer plays a crucial role in the management and administration of PostgreSQL databases, particularly in cloud environments such as AWS. This position requires a highly skilled individual who can work independently or as part of a multi-functional team to identify, plan, develop, and deploy database applications and technology solutions across various physical locations and business units. The engineer will serve as the primary point of contact for AWS database administration and will handle escalations related to the Banking Industry project. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in managing PostgreSQL databases, with at least 10-12 years of experience in the field. A minimum of 5 years of this experience should be specifically in cloud environments, preferably with AWS, focusing on managing databases as RDS services. The role involves installing, configuring, patching, migrating, maintaining, and upgrading open-source database platforms, particularly PostgreSQL and AWS RDS. In addition to technical skills, the position requires a strong understanding of database performance improvement techniques, including indexing and partitioning. The engineer should be familiar with message queuing, full-text indexing, and other high-performance data concepts. Experience in AWS environment management and knowledge of various tools for database management are essential. The candidate should also possess advanced knowledge of Linux OS and be proficient in using SSH for remote system connections. The role demands excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as the engineer will be responsible for client-facing interactions and problem-solving. The ability to write efficient database code while ensuring data quality, privacy, and security is critical. Hands-on experience with tools such as Jira, GitHub, Ansible, and Terraform, as well as a good understanding of CI/CD processes using GitLab, is also required. The engineer will be expected to have practical experience in monitoring and managing complex RDS databases, including configuring high availability and resiliency solutions using Aurora Read replicas and Global Database.
