About the position

The Pouch Operator 1 at American Packaging Corporation is responsible for operating the pouching machine efficiently and safely while adhering to quality standards. This role involves training in safety protocols, managing machine setups, conducting quality assurance tests, and maintaining accurate documentation of production processes. The operator plays a crucial role in ensuring that production meets customer specifications and contributes to the company's commitment to a zero-accident rate.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the pouching machine safely and effectively while adhering to quality standards.
  • Participate in training and practice the STOP Safety Program fundamentals.
  • Develop, understand, and follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Read and interpret job jackets, manufacturing specifications, and pouch specifications.
  • Perform cleaning and housekeeping duties as necessary.
  • Manage machine set-ups and changeovers according to job specifications.
  • Conduct and document quality assurance tests, interpreting data and taking corrective actions as needed.
  • Understand and utilize the bar code system for inventory control.
  • Complete required paperwork accurately and timely, including Shop Floor Reports.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical problems and perform minor machine maintenance.
  • Safely operate roll handling equipment to load work in process rolls onto the machine.
  • Produce pouches within customer specifications and complete necessary quality testing.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled meetings and comply with company policies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience in manufacturing positions or related industry experience in printing, laminating, or pouch making.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Mathematical skills to perform basic calculations and interpret bar graphs.
  • Reasoning ability to solve practical problems and troubleshoot machines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with quality assurance processes in manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with safety programs in a manufacturing environment.
