About the position

The Power BI Admin position at Onsite involves comprehensive administration of Microsoft Fabric, Power BI Servers, Power BI Service, and Gateways across various environments, ensuring alignment with Microsoft releases. The role requires a proactive approach to platform administration for Power BI and other Business Intelligence (BI) platforms as necessary. The successful candidate will manage Power BI Server operations, focusing on critical aspects such as security, clustering, load balancing, and user management, ensuring that the systems are secure and efficient. In addition to server management, the role includes responsibilities for Power BI licensing administration, report and dataset migration, and scheduling tasks to optimize performance. The candidate will design and implement capacity and utilization monitoring systems, as well as performance monitoring strategies to ensure the smooth operation of BI services. Managing application users, groups, service principals, and integration with Active Directory or Azure Active Directory is also a key responsibility, ensuring that user access is appropriately managed and secured. The Power BI Admin will provide essential support to application development teams, assisting with the setup of workspaces, migration of objects, and participating in deployment reviews to ensure best practices are followed. The role also involves managing application upgrades, hotfixes, and maintaining documentation in accordance with Vizient's policies and industry best practices. The candidate will connect and manage Power BI with various data sources, both in the cloud and on-premises, including new data sources in Data Lakes and Delta Lakes. Troubleshooting and resolving system issues, debugging, tuning, and optimizing performance are critical components of the role, along with participating in an on-call rotation as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Administer MS Fabric, Power BI Servers, Power BI Service and Gateways across environments based on Microsoft releases.
  • Assist with platform administration for Power BI and other BI platforms as needed.
  • Manage Power BI Server including security, clustering, load balancing, and user management.
  • Provide Power BI Licensing administration support, report and dataset migration and scheduling.
  • Design capacity and utilization monitoring and performance monitoring.
  • Manage application users, groups, service principals, and integration with Active Directory or Azure Active Directory Power BI Service Management.
  • Support application development teams including setup of workspaces, migration of objects, and participate in deployment reviews.
  • Handle application upgrades, hotfixes, and documentation based on Vizient's policies and industry best practices.
  • Connect and manage Power BI to various data sources in cloud, on-prem, and new data sources in Data Lakes and Delta Lakes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system issues, debug, tune and optimize for optimal performance.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation as needed.

Requirements

  • Relevant degree preferred.
  • 2 or more years of related experience is required.
  • Hands-on experience in a Microsoft Power BI administrator role is required.
  • General knowledge of IT Operational practices, Microsoft Active Directory, BI Platforms, and cloud technologies including Azure or AWS is required.
  • Administration experience with MS Fabric highly preferred.
  • Experience developing with Cognos, SAS, Power BI, or other BI tools is preferred.
  • Experience with change management processes and best practices with respect to BI tools is preferred.
  • Experience with agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban is preferred.
