About the position
The PowerBI Developer role is a senior-level position focused on creating interactive reports and dashboards that provide insights for internal clients. The developer will work independently under the guidance of the Product Manager, transforming requirements into data models and ensuring performance and security in the development process. This hybrid role is based in Chicago, IL, and requires extensive experience in PowerBI and SQL.
Responsibilities
- Work independently under the Product Manager to deliver internal projects by turning requirements into data models, reports, and dashboards.
- Create end-to-end dashboards and communicate with the product owner.
- Track the development timeline and maintain a RAID log.
- Test work confidently and ensure performance and security.
- Participate in knowledge transfer sessions with the Product Manager to learn data schemas, metrics, and visual standards.
- Collaborate with Business Analysts and the Product Manager to refine technical requirements.
- Work with the data engineering and architecture team to ensure data flows and availability.
- Design and implement interactive reports and dashboards in PowerBI, following best practices and standards.
- Include drill-through, drill-down, and tool-tips for end-user interaction.
- Ensure reports meet performance benchmarks and configure appropriate refresh schedules.
- Perform data validation to ensure accuracy and conduct unit tests.
- Work with QA/QC and conduct User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
- Document data models, report structures, and logic used in development.
- Participate in daily stand-ups.
Requirements
- 8-12 years of overall development experience.
- 5+ years of PowerBI development demonstrating advanced skills.
- 8+ years of SQL experience modeling data and writing complex queries.
- Extensive experience with PowerBI, including Bookmarks, Custom Visuals, and Field parameters.
- Proficient in GIT for version control.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with Object-Oriented Framework development.
- Familiarity with Miro.
