About the position

The Principal Solutions Architect at McLane is a key role focused on leveraging Microsoft's data and analytics technology stack to solve complex challenges and align technology with organizational goals. This position involves designing and executing analytical technology solutions, providing technical expertise, and driving the discovery and implementation of innovative data solutions. The role requires collaboration with stakeholders and governance leaders to ensure alignment with enterprise requirements and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Design end to end analytical workflows, including overall architecture, capabilities, platforms, tools, and governing processes.
  • Develop complex dimensional data models using Power BI and produce actionable metrics using advanced DAX skills.
  • Use Power Query to transform and load data to create compelling data visualizations with Power BI.
  • Create, maintain, and communicate positioning and go-forward strategies for analytical capabilities and tools.
  • Define and improve best practices, guidelines, and integration with other enterprise solutions.
  • Review analytic solutions for re-usability, scalability, synergy opportunities, and alignment to defined best practices and guidelines.
  • Create and evolve analytic technology roadmap to align with continuously evolving business needs.
  • Collaborate with governance leader to ensure architectural alignment to enterprise governance requirements and inform of implementation feasibility.
  • Monitor technology trends and perform discovery of any new tools and capabilities of interest.
  • Benchmark analytic capabilities with industry analysts and other companies.
  • Own strategic technology relationships with technology vendors and external communities/partners.
  • Lead education and training for the analytics community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, statistics, engineering, or a related field.
  • Seven or more years demonstrating a high degree of proficiency in designing and developing complex, high-quality analytical solutions on cloud and other modern data platforms and tools.
  • Five or more years in a Data Architecture role designing data and analytics solution architectures, detailed workflows, data modeling, applying data engineering and architecture best practices, and governance guidelines and advising on necessary technologies.
  • Experience with designing and maintaining data warehouses and/or data lakes with big data technologies such as Spark/Databricks, or distributed databases, like Redshift and Snowflake, and experience with housing, accessing, and transforming data in a variety of relational databases.
  • Experience in building data pipelines and deploying/maintaining them following modern DE best practices (e.g., DBT, Airflow, Spark, Python OSS Data Ecosystem).
  • Knowledge of Software Engineering fundamentals and software development tooling (e.g., Git, CI/CD, JIRA) and familiarity with the Linux operating system and the Bash/Z shell.
  • Experience with cloud database technologies (e.g., Azure) and developing solutions on cloud computing services and infrastructure in the data and analytics space.
  • Basic familiarity with BI tools (e.g., Alteryx, Tableau, Power BI, Looker).
  • Expertise in ELT and data analysis, SQL primarily.
  • Conceptual knowledge of data and analytics, such as dimensional modelling, reporting tools, data governance, and structured and unstructured data.
  • Ability to work with customer's business requirements to create best-case solutions.
  • Ability to communicate vision to both technical and leadership audiences.
  • Ability to build demos and proof of concepts.
  • Ability to act as a consultant on architecture and implementation.
