About the position

The PowerBuilder Developer and IT Analyst position is a hybrid role based in Lansing, Michigan, designed for local candidates, although non-local candidates are welcome to apply provided they are willing to relocate at their own expense. The role requires the selected candidate to be onsite starting from day one, adhering to a hybrid work schedule that mandates being onsite two days a week, with Wednesdays being a required onsite day. The other onsite day can be flexible, but there is no option for remote-only work. Candidates should be prepared for interviews conducted via MS Teams, and they must have a laptop ready to share their screen if requested. In this role, the individual will leverage their expertise in PowerBuilder Development (version 7 or higher) and advanced T-SQL query writing skills for Sybase and MS SQL Server databases. Daily responsibilities will encompass a variety of tasks including data management, source control using tools like TFS/Azure DevOps and GIT, unit testing, documentation, testing, production support, change management, software development, and ensuring data integrity. The position requires a proactive approach to learning and adapting to new technologies and methodologies in the IT landscape.

Responsibilities

• Research and modify PowerBuilder source code to document application data usage.
• Write complex T-SQL queries to extract data from Sybase and MS SQL Server databases.
• Develop processes for data extraction and manipulation to support data migration and cleansing.
• Perform data profiling, mapping, manipulation, validation, and analysis.
• Utilize source control technologies such as TFS/Azure DevOps or GIT.
• Document and perform unit testing to support program changes.
• Create, update, and maintain documentation for programs, system specifications, and flow diagrams.
• Collaborate with clients and/or Business Analysts to support test scenarios.
• Analyze and document problems to determine root causes and provide analysis.
• Follow change management procedures and provide input for executing changes.

Requirements

• Some college education, preferably in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related IT discipline.
• Current experience in PowerBuilder Development (version 7 or higher).
• High level of SQL query writing skills for complex queries.
• Experience in data management including profiling, mapping, and validation.
• Familiarity with source control technologies such as TFS/Azure DevOps or GIT.
• Experience in documenting and performing unit testing.
• Ability to create and maintain documentation for programs and system specs.
• Experience in testing and supporting test scenarios with clients or Business Analysts.
• Experience in production support and root cause analysis.
• Knowledge of change management procedures.
