About the position

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to join our Power Delivery Services Group. This role is pivotal in partnering with business unit market leaders to develop and support positioning strategies aimed at winning project work. The ideal candidate will thrive in building relationships and delivering excellent customer service, ensuring that all work is performed with initiative, productivity, and a positive attitude. Excellent written and verbal interpersonal skills are essential, as the role involves interaction with staff at all levels in a dynamic environment. The candidate must demonstrate flexibility, inventiveness, dedication, and efficiency, while maintaining a high level of integrity and confidentiality. In this position, you will lead the positioning activities of the business development team and participate in strategic business planning. This includes developing a strategic positioning plan for the company and project pursuits to secure work. You will be responsible for producing internal and external communications, marketing, branding, advertising materials, and presentations. Coordination of prequalification efforts with targeted customers and partners is also a key responsibility. Additionally, you will initiate customer feedback on proposals and presentations, acting as a liaison between business development, pre-construction, and marketing. Your role will involve providing insights into market sectors and performing market trends analysis. Establishing and cultivating strategic business partnerships and customer relationships is crucial, as is developing and maintaining relationships with current and potential partners, including targeted customers, design professionals, community leaders, utilities, equipment manufacturers, and engineering firms. You will identify new market sector opportunities and convert them into contacts for market sector leaders, while familiarizing yourself with customer project estimates to facilitate discussions. Completing Requests for Proposals with 100% accuracy and compliance with owner specifications is a critical task. You will also play an integral role with the development team, utilizing training and completing performance reviews, while employing appropriate forethought and planning in decision-making to ensure project success.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the positioning activities of the business development team

Requirements

  • Proven customer relationship building skills, with developed local/regional/national business knowledge and relationships
  • Proven knowledge and execution of successful marketing strategies
  • Demonstrated knowledge of North American power delivery market and the participants, specifically utilities, independent transmission providers (ITPs), independent power producers (IPPs), and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs)
  • Knowledge of construction law and generally accepted business practices
  • Proficient in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) delivery methods, specifically substation and transmission line design, equipment, and construction
  • Ability to visit project sites and/or review RFP requirements independently and communicate requirements, risks, and strategy to successfully win and execute the work
  • Detail orientation sufficient for data entry, reporting, financial projections for sales and selections, and market analysis
  • Microsoft Office, project and pertinent CRM web application skills at an advanced level
  • Proven positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills
  • Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies
  • Minimum five years prior industry-related power generation and/or power delivery experience
  • Current driver's license
