About the position

The Power Distribution System Operator II is responsible for the advanced operation of the power distribution and transmission control system. This role involves monitoring and responding to system alarms, coordinating line switching for outages, and ensuring safety protocols are followed. The operator plays a critical role in maintaining system reliability and assisting field personnel during emergency operations.

Responsibilities

  • Operates the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system for the power distribution/transmission system.
  • Monitors and responds to SCADA alarm statuses.
  • Devises, maintains, and enforces established switching and tagging procedures to minimize outages and ensure safety.
  • Directs, plans, and coordinates line switching and tagging for planned circuit outages.
  • Prepares switching orders and executes switching steps according to established procedures.
  • Monitors system loads and voltages to ensure loading parameters are not exceeded.
  • Troubleshoots OMS incidents and enters outage information into computerized systems.
  • Tracks location of field personnel and secures safety for crews working on energized circuits.
  • Dispatches and directs power distribution field personnel during emergency operations.
  • Maintains daily logs for reported power outages and abnormal conditions in power supply.
  • Prepares major outage reports to generate system reliability statistics.
  • Monitors ancillary systems such as IVR, telephone, and security systems.
  • Assists in updating power system record maps with the GIS section.
  • Inspects substation facilities and performs field verification of SCADA nodes.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience as a Power Distribution System Operator I or closely related experience.
  • Three (3) years of experience performing power line work.
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required for some positions.
