About the position

The Power Distribution System Operator II is responsible for the advanced operation of the power distribution and transmission control system. This role involves monitoring and responding to SCADA alarm statuses, coordinating line switching and tagging for outages, and ensuring safety protocols are followed. The operator plays a crucial role in maintaining system reliability and assisting field crews during outages and emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Operates the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system for the power distribution/transmission system.
• Monitors and responds to SCADA alarm statuses.
• Devises, maintains, and enforces established switching and tagging procedures.
• Directs, plans, and coordinates line switching and tagging for planned circuit outages.
• Prepares switching orders and executes switching steps according to procedures.
• Monitors system loads and voltages to assure loading parameters are not exceeded.
• Ensures troubleshooting of OMS incidents and enters trouble tickets into work management systems.
• Tracks location of field personnel and dispatches them during emergency operations.
• Maintains daily logs for reported power outages and abnormal conditions.
• Prepares and maintains major outage reports for system reliability statistics.
• Monitors and responds to concerns in ancillary systems such as IVR and security systems.
• Assists the GIS section in updating power system record maps.
• Inspects substation facilities and performs field verification of SCADA nodes.

Requirements

• Two (2) years of experience as a Power Distribution System Operator I or closely related experience.
• Three (3) years of experience performing power line work.
• Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required.
