About the position

The Power Electrical Engineer V position at BCForward involves overseeing the design, development, and testing of electrical equipment, particularly in the context of smart glasses. This role requires a strong focus on ensuring the cost-effectiveness, reliability, and safety of design models. The engineer will engage with clients to discuss project estimates regarding time and costs, and will supervise the simulation and testing of machine, structure, and system operations while monitoring product quality. Additionally, the engineer will direct and coordinate various activities related to manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements. Inspecting completed installations and observing operations to ensure adherence to design and equipment specifications, as well as compliance with operational and safety standards, is also a critical part of this role. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership and mentoring skills, enabling them to provide support and constructive feedback to team members. They should demonstrate critical thinking abilities and leverage innovative ideas in their work. Advanced skills in performing detailed calculations to establish manufacturing, construction, and installation standards are essential, along with the ability to create sketches and engineering drawings. A solid understanding of electrical theory principles as they apply to engineering projects is required, as is familiarity with computer applications and design software relevant to the engineering field. Hands-on experience with lab test equipment, such as high-speed oscilloscopes, power supplies, and data acquisition systems, is crucial for success in this position. Proficiency in programming languages like Python and MATLAB is also necessary for processing bench work data.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the design, development, and testing of electrical equipment, including machinery controls, wiring, and lighting.
  • Review and approve the cost effectiveness, reliability, and safety of design models.
  • Discuss estimates for time and cost to complete projects with clients.
  • Supervise the simulation and testing of machine/structure/system operation and monitor product quality.
  • Direct and coordinate manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements.
  • Inspect completed installations and observe operations to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering required.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills necessary to provide support and constructive performance feedback.
  • Advanced ability to perform detailed calculations to compute and establish manufacturing, construction, and installation standards and specifications.
  • Advanced ability to make sketches, engineering drawings, and common computations.
  • Advanced ability to apply principles of electrical theory to engineering projects.
  • Previous experience with computer applications and design software related to the engineering field.
  • Hands-on Power EE Skill - familiar with lab test equipment: high-speed oscilloscope, power supply, data acquisition system.
  • Proficiency in Python for processing bench work data.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Big Tech preferred, but not required.
