About the position

The Power Electronics Systems Engineer position at Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) focuses on the development and testing of electrified propulsion systems for electric vehicles. The role involves supporting the engineering group's capabilities, collaborating with teams, and delivering technical reports while remaining current with industry trends and technologies. The engineer will work on projects related to e-Motor and power electronics, contributing to the advancement of Hyundai, KIA, and Genesis products.

Responsibilities

  • Support the growth of the engineering group's capabilities for production vehicle and new technology development.
  • Understand the department's business model, strategic direction, purpose, and mission and perform necessary tasks.
  • Support the execution of the engineering group's goals and objectives through to successful completion.
  • Support inter-team collaborations and knowledge sharing through transparent communications.
  • Create and deliver engineering reports and presentations on short term and long-term work activities.
  • Remain current with new technology and competitive products as a means to drive innovations.
  • Provide deep dive technical support for electrified propulsion system related concerns for both pre-production and post-production issues.
  • Perform engineering activities related to the development or identification of new technologies, strategies, and methods for improving fuel economy and performance of current and future vehicles.
  • Test and evaluate various electrified propulsion system components such as electric machines and power electronics.
  • Conduct high voltage safety and failure prevention testing.
  • Perform feasibility analysis of new electrified system technologies through simulation, dyno testing, and on-road evaluations.
  • Introduce selected electrified technologies to current or next gen products through active communications with production programs in Korea R&D headquarters.
  • Engage in research activities with external partners including national labs, universities, and suppliers.
  • Investigate industry trends through benchmarking competitors' systems and apply information to development directions and performance target setting.
  • Publish technical papers and reports internally and externally.
  • Travel both domestically and internationally (up to 15%).

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other related fields.
  • Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record.
  • Proven track record of delivering complex engineering projects related to testing and simulation of xEVs and their systems and components.
  • Practical knowledge in xEV components, principles, operation, and vehicle electrification technology.
  • Knowledge in vehicle or xEV component durability, performance and safety test procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to develop and maintain good relationships with tech experts from Korea R&D Center and counterpart teams.
  • Good written and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related fields.
  • Experience with e-Motor system or thermal management system development including test equipment, test processes, and system design processes.
  • Experience with data acquisition and analysis tools such as ETAS/INCA and MATLAB/Simulink.
