About the position

The Power Hardware Engineer Intern at S&C Electric Company is a pivotal role designed for students pursuing a degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. This internship offers hands-on experience in underground power hardware engineering, where the intern will support the integration of power hardware subsystems and contribute to product testing and design modifications. The position emphasizes collaboration within a team environment and provides opportunities for professional growth in a company dedicated to employee ownership and development.

Responsibilities

  • Solve design and manufacturing related problems through use of fundamental engineering calculations and theory.
  • Modify existing designs or develop new designs of components and subsystems, under the direction of senior engineering personnel.
  • Conduct studies and make analysis, interpretations, and conclusions under guidance and supervision.
  • Coordinate and perform product testing under guidance and supervision.
  • Prepare technical reports for internal customers.
  • Work within a team environment including interacting with other engineering and design professionals and members of the global sourcing, production planning, manufacturing, and assembly groups.

Requirements

  • Must be in good standing as a student at the Bachelor's or Master's degree level at an accredited university majoring in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related major.
  • Comfortable commuting to and working onsite at S&C Electric HQ in Rogers Park, Chicago IL.
  • Ability to work Full-Time in Summer 2025 for a minimum of 10 weeks.
  • Excellent communication skills and basic math/bookkeeping skills.
  • Familiarity with Microstation, AutoCad and/or other CAD software.
  • Computer proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel.
  • Ability to work in teams and handle multiple tasks in a dynamic work environment.
  • Competency in Microsoft software products (Word, Excel, etc).

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous internship/co-op experience.
  • Proficiency in the use of CAD systems, specifically 3D modeling.
  • Experience with Dimensioning and Tolerancing, including GD&T.
  • Very good interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workload to complete multiple projects and meet milestones.
