About the position
Estes is seeking skilled individuals for the role of Diesel Mechanic, responsible for the repairs and preventive maintenance of diesel engines, trucks, and forklifts. The position requires inspecting, troubleshooting, diagnosing, and performing maintenance on various types of equipment. A critical aspect of the role involves conducting safety inspections of equipment and preparing necessary safety documents in compliance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and other relevant regulations. The mechanic will interpret work orders and technical manuals to effectively repair or replace defective parts, components, or systems. After repairs, testing of the equipment is essential to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturer specifications and legislative regulations. Regular attendance is a requirement for this position, and while the job description outlines key responsibilities, it is not exhaustive. Employees may be required to perform additional duties as operational and safety needs arise. The role demands a proactive approach, with employees expected to maintain a high level of performance and adaptability to changing circumstances. Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED, be at least 18 years old, and have a minimum of one year of experience or completion of trade school. A valid CDL and acceptable MVR are necessary for those driving on public roads, and compliance with FMCSA regulations regarding drug and alcohol testing is mandatory. Strong communication skills, a self-starting attitude, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team are also critical for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for repairs and required preventive maintenance of diesel engines, trucks, and/or forklifts.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform maintenance on equipment.
- Perform safety inspections of equipment and prepare safety documents required by FMCSA and other regulations.
- Interpret work orders and technical manuals.
- Repair or replace defective parts, components, or systems.
- Test repaired equipment for proper performance and ensure compliance with manufacturer's specifications and regulations.
- Maintain regular attendance and perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or General Educational Degree (GED) or equivalent education.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Minimum of one year of experience and/or completion of trade school or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to use hand tools and test equipment effectively.
- Must have own tools for performing repairs.
- Knowledge of general repairs and preventive maintenance criteria.
- Specific knowledge of heavy truck repairs in a commercial environment, including diesel engine diagnostics.
- Ability to keep up with changing technology and updates.
- Possess mechanical ability and interest in engines, electronics, and precision equipment.
- Strength and stamina to work with heavy equipment and in awkward positions.
- Ability to lift approximately 70 lbs or more as required by job functions.
- Valid CDL and acceptable MVR required if driving on public roads.
- Registered with FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse if a CDL holder.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-starting, organized, and strong work ethic with good problem-solving skills.
