About the position

Evergy is committed to leading the Responsible Portfolio Transition. Evergy's 2024 Triennial Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) called for 3,600 MWs of new wind and solar and 2,445 MWs of new conventional generating assets over the next ten years. Reporting to the Director - Conventional Generation Projects, the candidate has technical responsibility to support the development of conventional generation projects. This engineer will support conventional generation projects with an emphasis on technical responsibility for the plant and turbine control systems. Working with a team of Project Managers and other engineers, the engineer will support the safe, timely, cost effective, and environmentally sound delivery of conventional generation projects. The type of projects will include conventional generation including simple cycle combustion turbines, and combined cycle combustion turbines. The candidate will also have the opportunity to stay abreast of the latest leading-edge technologies such as thermal storage and small-modular reactors. The projects that the engineer will assist with are likely to be complex, multi-million-dollar capital projects with multi-year timeframes that span diverse disciplines. This candidate will provide engineering support to the development, construction and commissioning of steam and combustion turbines. Additionally, have the ability to troubleshoot control system issues.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of conventional generation projects with a focus on plant and turbine control systems.
  • Work with Project Managers and other engineers to ensure safe, timely, cost-effective, and environmentally sound project delivery.
  • Assist in the development, construction, and commissioning of steam and combustion turbines.
  • Troubleshoot control system issues.

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited school.
  • At least 4 years of engineering experience in the design, construction and/or maintenance of power plant control systems.
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends as needed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of GE Mark VIe, Mitsubishi, Emerson Ovation and/or Siemens T3000 control systems.
  • OEM certification.
  • EIT or PE certification.
