About the position

The Power Plant Engineer 4 position at the Anamosa State Penitentiary involves performing advanced journey-level work in the operation and maintenance of the Power Plant's equipment. This role includes leading incarcerated individuals in managing the utility services that support the correctional facility, including emergency electrical generation, steam, water, and sewer systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced journey-level work in the operation and maintenance of Power Plant equipment.
  • Lead incarcerated individuals in the operations and maintenance of the Power Plant.
  • Manage the emergency electrical generation system and associated utilities.
  • Oversee the maintenance of steam generating boilers and electrical generating turbines.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and operational standards in the Power Plant.

Requirements

  • Four years of full-time work experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of steam generating boilers, centralized air-conditioning, or electrical power generating equipment and auxiliary systems.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting 30 semester hours of accredited coursework for each year of required experience (maximum substitution of one year).
  • Current continuous experience in the state Executive Branch, including two years of full-time work as a Power Plant Engineer 3.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of fuel and equipment principles used in the operation and maintenance of steam generating boilers and electrical generating turbines.
  • Certification or license in Fire Sprinkler Installation and Maintenance.
