About the position

The Power Plant Engineer 4 position at the Anamosa State Penitentiary involves performing advanced journey-level work in the operation and maintenance of the Power Plant, which supplies utility services to the correctional facility. The role includes leading incarcerated individuals in the maintenance of equipment, including emergency electrical generation systems, steam, water, and sewer systems. The position requires knowledge of fuel and equipment used in steam generating boilers and electrical generating turbines.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced journey-level work in the operation and maintenance of the Power Plant.
  • Lead incarcerated individuals in the maintenance of Power Plant equipment.
  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of emergency electrical generation systems.
  • Manage steam, water, and sewer systems in the Power Plant and two water wells.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.

Requirements

  • Four years of full-time work experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of steam generating boilers, centralized air-conditioning, or electrical power generating equipment and auxiliary systems.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting 30 semester hours of accredited coursework for each year of required experience, up to a maximum of one year.
  • Current continuous experience in the state Executive Branch, including two years of full-time work as a Power Plant Engineer 3.

Nice-to-haves

  • Fire Sprinkler Installer and Maintenance License (to be obtained within a specified time frame).
