About the position

The internship at Xcel Energy offers a unique opportunity for students enrolled in an ABET accredited engineering program to gain practical experience in the energy industry. Interns will support the reliability engineering team at Cherokee Station, engaging in hands-on tasks that enhance their understanding of powerplant operations and reliability engineering. This yearlong internship, starting in January 2025, allows for part-time work during the school year and full-time hours in the summer, providing a platform for professional growth and skill development.

Responsibilities

• Support the reliability engineering team at Cherokee Station.
• Learn powerplant fundamentals and red-line engineering drawings.
• Analyze root cause failures and assist in planning and executing projects.
• Gain hands-on experience by working alongside engineers and craft personnel.
• Monitor systems to develop a robust reliability program.

Requirements

• Must be enrolled in an ABET accredited engineering program.
• Studying areas such as electrical, mechanical, civil, or chemical engineering.
• Mechanical, electrical, or controls engineering major.
• Project management skillset.

Nice-to-haves

• Completion of a thermodynamics course.
• Completion of a power systems course.
• Familiarity with mechanical components.
