About the position

RoviSys' Power & Energy division is seeking a Power Systems Controls Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be instrumental in supporting the definition, development, testing, and implementation of Microgrid, Power System Automation, and Electrical Power Monitoring System (EPMS) solutions. You will utilize the latest automation technologies from industry-leading Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to ensure that our projects meet the highest standards of quality and efficiency. As a Power Systems Controls Engineer, your responsibilities will include creating and developing Functional Specifications, which encompass Sequence of Operations (SOO) and Bills of Materials (BOMs). You will collaborate closely with Electrical Designers to develop comprehensive project drawing packages. Your technical expertise will be crucial in developing, testing, and deploying various control systems, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Real Time Automation Controllers (RTAC), Intelligent Electronic Devices (IED), and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) for Power System Automation Applications. You will also be responsible for developing Test Plans for both Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and you will support the execution of these tests to ensure that all systems function as intended. Additionally, you will assist with loop checks, start-up, and commissioning activities to successfully deploy Power System Automation and Microgrid solutions. Training customers on the systems you implement will also be a key part of your role, as will troubleshooting any existing systems that may be malfunctioning.

Responsibilities

  • Create and develop Functional Specifications, including SOO (Sequence of Operations) and BOMs (Bill of Materials).
  • Support Electrical Designers to develop project drawing packages.
  • Develop, test and deploy PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), DCS (Distributed Control System), RTAC (Real Time Automation Controller), IED (Intelligent Electronic Devices, Relays, Meters, Synchronizers, etc.) and HMIs (Human Machine Interfaces) for Power System Automation Applications.
  • Develop Test Plans for both FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and SAT (Site Acceptance Testing) and support the execution of both tests.
  • Support loop checks, start-up and commissioning activities as required to successfully deploy Power System Automation and Microgrid solutions.
  • Perform formal and informal customer training as required.
  • Troubleshoot existing systems that may be malfunctioning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution
  • 3-6 years of relevant controls experience
  • Working knowledge of automation functions such as Generator Synchronization, Automatic System Islanding, Load Shedding, Main-Tie-Main, Paralleling Switchgear, Operational Dispatch
  • Working experience with technology providers such as Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL), Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Basler, Woodward, AVEVA, Ignition, etc.
  • Working experience with communication protocols common in the Power Industry (Modbus, DNP3, IEC-61850, OPC, BACnet, etc.)
