About the position

The Powertrain Modeling Engineer will be part of the Powertrain Architecture and Modeling team, responsible for developing and validating component and system models for vehicle architecture design and performance evaluation. This role involves guiding design teams through trade-off studies and facilitating multi-objective optimization while ensuring effective communication of performance expectations throughout the engineering lifecycle of various products.

Responsibilities

  • Advance the capabilities of and intellectual property of Tesla's in-house powertrain performance model
  • Work with the model to produce repeatable and dependable results for various stakeholders within the organization
  • Effectively communicate modeling study results to drive architecture and performance initiatives
  • Develop a consistent framework for reporting progress of model and component development as components go from conception to prototype to full-production status

Requirements

  • Excellent first-principles physics understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, power delivery, energy storage and transformation, and basic thermo and aero-dynamics
  • Hybrid or electric powertrain component model development and data analysis in MATLAB/Simulink
  • Experience with advanced model development, preferably in MATLAB/Simulink
  • Experience with large datasets and complicated models
  • Strong communication skills and preference for working in teams
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent experience
