About the position

The PPM Building Maintenance Mechanic I position is a skilled role focused on the repair and maintenance of various building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and other mechanical equipment. This position is essential for ensuring that facilities and equipment operate at optimal levels, contributing to the overall efficiency of the organization. The mechanic will perform a variety of tasks that involve general maintenance work across different trades, requiring a solid understanding of building systems and the ability to work independently without close supervision. The work is reviewed periodically to ensure quality and compliance with safety standards. In this role, the mechanic will be responsible for performing repairs and adjustments to plumbing systems, HVAC units, electrical fixtures, and other mechanical components. This includes changing ballasts and transformers, installing and repairing electrical circuits, and conducting general repairs on air-conditioning systems. The mechanic will also be tasked with preventative maintenance on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems, ensuring that all equipment is functioning properly and efficiently. Additional responsibilities include operating maintenance equipment, making minor repairs to building infrastructures, and performing skilled carpentry repairs. The mechanic may also be required to assist with compliance to federal airport operations and safety regulations, conduct wildlife control techniques, and respond to airport emergencies as necessary. This position may require overtime or alternate hours to meet the operational needs of the department, and it is designated as Mission Critical, emphasizing the importance of reliability and skill in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Perform various repairs and adjustments to plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, and electrical fixtures.
  • Change ballast and transformers on light fixtures.
  • Install and repair electrical circuits.
  • Initiate general repairs to air-conditioning systems and check electrical circuits on units.
  • Install low-voltage thermostats and controls.
  • Initiate general repairs to all plumbing systems, including cast iron, PVC, CPVC, and copper.
  • Repair ice machines and water coolers; change compressors and recharge systems.
  • Check electrical equipment, motors, and fans.
  • Operate maintenance equipment and make minor repairs to building infrastructures and furniture.
  • Clean guttering and HVAC systems.
  • Repair and maintain varied office equipment and building components.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems.
  • Solder, rivet, seam, and bolt metal parts as required.
  • Perform skilled carpentry repairs using power saws and other standard carpentry tools.
  • May perform basic painting functions, such as preparing surfaces and applying finishes.
  • Assist in compliance with federal airport operations, safety, certification, and security regulations under FAR Part 139 and TSA 1542.
  • Conduct wildlife control techniques as necessary.
  • Provide appropriate airfield maintenance actions in response to airport emergencies and other incidents.

Requirements

  • High school diploma from an accredited school or a GED.
  • Two (2) years of experience in various building trades work.
  • Two (2) years of experience in building trades work and/or the maintenance of HVAC or other facility systems.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Type-II Refrigeration Service Engineers Society license on proper refrigerants practices.
