About the position

The PR & Marketing Manager at Make-A-Wish Alabama is responsible for developing and executing the organization's public relations and marketing strategies to enhance brand awareness and engagement. This role involves managing communications activities, overseeing the PR & Communications team, and serving as a spokesperson for the organization. The manager will work collaboratively across departments to drive donor acquisition and retention while ensuring brand compliance and effective crisis communication.

Responsibilities

  • Create and implement high-impact strategies for all marketing and communications efforts to increase brand awareness and drive engagement.
  • Lead the development and execution of messaging, content, and editorial plans for the organization.
  • Ensure brand compliance cross-departmentally, according to national guidelines and local needs.
  • Create and manage a social media calendar that prioritizes organizational goals and fulfills external obligations.
  • Own brand management across all internal and external communications while maintaining a consistent overall standard and brand voice.
  • Serve as a primary spokesperson for the organization with media and at speaking engagements.
  • Supervise the Marketing & Communications staff, including seasonal interns.
  • Manage crisis communications and serve as the internal point of contact for crisis issues.
  • Provide direct support to internal and external events, including speech writing and media management.
  • Prepare talking points, speeches, presentations, and other supporting materials for Board members and staff.
  • Act as chapter representative to the national office Brand Advancement team.
  • Utilize analytics data from social and other digital media to understand audience habits and drive revenue.
  • Work with the Vice President of Advancement to develop proposals for corporate and external partners and high-level donors.
  • Approve marketing and branded materials to ensure brand compliance.
  • Set objectives for the PR & Communications team and monitor performance.
  • Maximize brand presence on various channels (e.g., web, TV, and social media).
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with media and influential professionals.
  • Outline event-specific communications strategies and marketing plans.
  • Provide communications support to all departments.
  • Assist with high-level donor conversations and corporate asks.
  • Adhere to all performance standards and internal controls.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years in successful media, public relations, or marketing positions.
  • Degree in journalism, public relations, marketing, or communications preferred.
  • Organized, self-motivated, and committed individual who can work with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with short- and long-term strategic planning.
  • Willingness to work weekend or evening events/functions or travel as necessary.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Proven ability to multi-task, prioritize, and delegate.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Experience managing social media for an organization.

  • Graphic design and video editing capabilities preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
