About the position

The Principal/Senior Principal Systems Ops and Sustainment Engineering Lead at Northrop Grumman is responsible for overseeing the operational support of satellite missions. This role involves acting as the primary point of contact for on-orbit operations, ensuring the maintenance and improvement of operational procedures, and providing technical support during mission activities. The position requires a strong background in satellite engineering and the ability to lead teams through complex anomaly resolution processes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide standard business hours support for mission operations, including daily meetings and briefings.
  • Monitor the state-of-health of satellite buses and trending data.
  • Act as the representative for on-call support regarding on-orbit issues or anomaly resolution.
  • Maintain and improve operational procedures and scripts related to satellite bus operations.
  • Assist in executing future mission rehearsals and system software updates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field with at least 5 years of applicable experience, or a Master's degree with 3 years of applicable experience for Principal Systems Engineer (T3).
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field with at least 9 years of applicable experience, or a Master's degree with 7 years of applicable experience for Senior Principal Systems Engineer (T4).
  • Must have US Citizenship with current or active Top Secret/SCI Clearance at the time of application.
  • Knowledge and experience in satellite engineering disciplines including attitude control, power management, thermal control, propulsion, command and data handling, and flight and ground software.
  • Familiarity with the anomaly resolution process.
  • Experience in developing and presenting briefing slides to senior leaders and executive personnel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in GeoStar-1 space vehicle design.
  • Experience with satellite ground software.
  • Ability to lead an engineering team through the anomaly resolution process.
  • Strong technical background in orbital mechanics/astrodynamics.
  • Prior aerospace-related work experience for a U.S Government Agency or Contractor.
