About the position

The Practical Nurse (Paramedic/EMT) at Parachute plays a crucial role in managing donor medical needs at the Donor Center. This position involves educating donors about the plasmapheresis process, ensuring compliance with health regulations, and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for plasma donation. The Practical Nurse will work closely with the Center Medical/Lab Director and senior management to uphold Parachute's mission of enhancing the plasma donation experience and supporting patients in need of medication derived from plasma.

Responsibilities

  • Educate potential donors on the plasmapheresis process and the importance of plasma safety.
  • Maintain confidentiality of donor and staff records.
  • Evaluate donors by performing physical examinations and taking medical and health histories under supervision.
  • Counsel donors on deferrals due to test results and health suitability.
  • Perform evaluations of donor history to ensure suitability for donation.
  • Attend to major reactions and evaluate donor injuries.
  • Maintain medical supplies in exam rooms and ensure cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Maintain medical communication logs with the Center Medical/Lab Director.
  • Review normal and abnormal test results to determine donor suitability.
  • Manage medical issues in the donor center and review complex cases with the Center Medical/Lab Director.
  • Oversee the Hepatitis B program for staff employees.

Requirements

  • Currently certified/licensed as a Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, or equivalent in the state of employment.
  • Current CPR Certification.
  • Minimum of six months of experience in a GMP environment with plasma or whole blood experience preferred, or related clinical experience.

  • Experience in a clinical setting providing medical care and assessing patients.
