About the position

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation for the position of Practical Nurse (GS-0620) within the U.S. government. The job is open for applications from 01/01/2025 to 12/31/2025, with a salary range of $33,878 - $60,416 per year, depending on the grade level (GS 5 - 8) and location. The position is available at various locations including Elmendorf AFB, AK, Maxwell AFB, AL, and many others across the United States. This role does not allow for remote work or telework, and occasional travel may be required. The work schedule is full-time, and the position is competitive with a promotion potential up to GS-8.

Responsibilities

• Observe and promptly notify nurse and/or physician of adverse physical and emotional reactions to medications.
• Perform emergency procedures and provide first aid in accordance with emergency protocols.
• Conduct cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) when needed.
• Teach patients and family members how to perform simple tests on themselves.
• Perform procedures such as electrocardiograms (EKGs) and urinary catheterization as needed.
• Administer prescribed medications.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Males must be registered for Selective Service.
• Candidates must be currently licensed to practice as practical or vocational nurses in a State or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia.
• Specialized experience is required based on the grade level (GS-05 to GS-08).

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical facility.
• Knowledge of basic and commonly used medical equipment, supplies, and procedures.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
