About the position

The Practice Area Finance team at Boston Consulting Group (BCG) plays a crucial role in providing business partnering and financial support to the firm's 20 global practice areas. This team is responsible for financial management, planning, and analysis, acting as a valued business partner to BCG leadership. As a Practice Area Financial Analyst Co-op, you will be integral to the financial guidance and support necessary to drive BCG's strategic agenda. The practice areas represent BCG's industry and functional thought leadership, encompassing various business offerings within the market, such as Healthcare and Operations. The work performed by the Practice Area Finance team is highly visible and critical to the development and growth of BCG's practices. In this role, you will engage in several essential activities that are part of the practice area operating model. You can expect to leverage business intelligence tools to build and analyze large financial datasets, ensuring that financial planning aligns with business strategy. Collaboration with colleagues throughout BCG's global network will be key to maintaining this alignment. You will also participate in the development of management reports that senior leadership uses to monitor BCG's financial performance. Facilitating communication between Practice Area Finance and internal business partners will be part of your responsibilities, along with contributing to the creation and tracking of projects and assisting in ad hoc analyses and projects as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage business intelligence tools to build and analyze large financial datasets.
  • Collaborate with colleagues throughout BCG's global network to ensure alignment of financial planning and business strategy.
  • Participate in the development of management reports used by senior leadership to monitor BCG's financial performance.
  • Facilitate communication between Practice Area Finance and internal business partners.
  • Contribute to the creation and tracking of projects.
  • Assist in ad hoc analyses and projects.

Requirements

  • Must be an undergraduate student currently enrolled in Northeastern University and approved by the university to participate in the January to June 2025 co-op cycle.
  • Working towards a BS/BA in a business-related field (preference for Finance, Accounting, or MIS).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Proficiency in Excel, including familiarity with pivot tables, array functions, and conditional formulas.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Prior work, internship or co-op experience in a progressive corporate environment is a plus.
  • Must have legal work authorization in the U.S.

Nice-to-haves

  • A knowledge of (or interest in) Management Information Systems (MIS) is considered a plus.
  • Strong technical aptitude with the ability to quickly learn and utilize business intelligence and analytics tools such as Alteryx, Tableau, and Business Objects.
  • Intellectually curious with strong problem-solving abilities.
