About the position

The Practice Innovation and Knowledge Attorney (Regulatory) at Crowell & Moring LLP is responsible for leveraging their legal expertise to drive practice innovation and knowledge management initiatives within the regulatory practice area. This role involves collaborating with lawyers and operations professionals to enhance client service through innovative solutions, managing knowledge projects, and ensuring alignment between strategic objectives and innovation initiatives. The attorney will also monitor legal developments and trends, support practitioners in accessing knowledge resources, and implement change management strategies to promote the adoption of new technologies and workflows.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Firm's lawyers and operations professionals to assess relevant practice area innovation and knowledge needs.
• Work with the Practice Innovation team to initiate, scope, and manage practice innovation and knowledge projects.
• Build relationships with leaders of the assigned Department to align strategic objectives with innovation initiatives.
• Implement innovative solutions reflecting change management best practices.
• Coordinate innovation efforts across Departments with other Practice Innovation and Knowledge Attorneys.
• Curate and manage best work product precedents and knowledge for relevant practice areas.
• Provide direct support to practitioners in locating practice-related knowledge resources.
• Monitor legal developments and market practice trends, keeping attorneys and clients informed.
• Identify opportunities to leverage structured data from unstructured repositories.
• Work with the Pricing and Legal Project Management team to collect data about matters and train lawyers on new technologies.
• Scope, test, and recommend solutions to practice pain-points, including working with external providers.
• Monitor the legal innovation landscape for strategic insights and practical expertise.

Requirements

• Expert substantive legal knowledge and practice skills in the assigned practice area.
• Familiarity with the legal innovation and legal technology ecosystem, including generative AI.
• Interest in artificial intelligence and its potential use cases in the legal profession.
• Advanced proficiency in researching and drafting legal documents relevant to the assigned practice area.
• Advanced proficiency in legal research techniques and tools, and analytics databases.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications.
• Expert knowledge of workflows and core needs of lawyers in the assigned practice areas.
• Familiarity with taxonomies, content management, and database structure.
• Knowledge of change management theory preferred.
• Familiarity with the business of law and relevant practices.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
• Strong business analysis skills and strategic thinking acumen.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with lawyers, clients, and service providers.
• Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and solve problems.
• Ability to provide quality client service while handling confidential information.
• Proficiency with learning and adapting to new technologies.
