About the position

The Practice Leader for Dams & Hydraulics Structures will serve as an Engineering Practice Leader, focusing on the growth and development of the Dams and Hydraulic Structures Engineering practice. This role requires a strong technical background in civil engineering, particularly in geotechnical, geological, hydrology and hydraulics, or structural engineering, along with significant experience in the field. The position involves collaboration with a network of professionals, business development, project management, and mentoring of staff to enhance the firm's capabilities in dam engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Lead business development activities within adjacent states, focusing on power utility and government clients.
  • Develop and coordinate a Regional business strategy for Dams and Hydraulic Structures.
  • Establish relationships with potential clients and identify opportunities.
  • Recruit top talent and assemble a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Work with marketing staff to prepare marketing materials and lead the preparation of technical proposals.
  • Participate in professional organizations and activities to promote the practice.
  • Provide leadership to implement current dam engineering best practices within the firm.
  • Mentor technical staff and assist with staff development and recruiting.
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight for Dams and Hydraulic Structures projects in various technical areas.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering degree (required).
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in the U.S. (required) and Virginia or Tennessee (required or ability to receive P.E. within 6 months of employment).
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in the consulting industry (15+ preferred).
  • Knowledge of and experience with the water resources and dams practice in the Region.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel (required).

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Geology, Structural, or Hydraulics Engineering (preferred).
  • NCEES Record for PE licensure (preferred).
  • Knowledge of Risk-Informed-Decision-Making methodologies such as USACE, FERC, and Reclamation (preferred).
