About the position

The PRC Benefits Coordinator at Ketchikan Indian Community is responsible for maximizing the clinic's use of alternate resources by collecting private insurance coverage information. This role involves establishing procedures for identifying alternate resources, preparing reports, and serving as a liaison between the clinic, patients, and other healthcare providers.

Responsibilities

  • Establish procedures to identify alternate resources such as Medicare, Medicaid, Private Insurance, Veterans' administration, Tribal Sponsored Health Plans (TSHIP), etc.
  • Prepare necessary reports providing statistical analysis and assist in monthly TSHIP and governance reporting requirements.
  • Collect appropriate data and insurance information on all patients from various sources.
  • Interview patients (and/or family), other providers, and insurance companies.
  • Send insurance questionnaires, review administrative files, and screen for third party coverage.
  • Interview and enroll veterans for the Veterans Administration Department benefits.
  • Assist those who may be eligible for Medicaid/Medicare by arranging patient contact with the correct agency.
  • Serve as liaison between KIC Clinic, patients, and other health care providers in the collection of alternate resource information.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative relationships between Indian Health Service, Tribally-managed facilities and other agencies to assist in the exchange of information.
  • Cross-train co-workers in the department to the related functions of this position in order to provide back-up coverage in his/her absence.
  • Receive cross training in other department positions, related duties, providing backup as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year medical field knowledge or progressive responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform duties of this position.
  • A combination of relevant experience, education, and training may substitute for education and experience requirements on a year-for-year basis.
  • Proof of valid driver's license with acceptable driving record (when DL is required for the job).

Nice-to-haves

  • Additional training courses in clerical field.
  • Experience in community clinic preferred and a strong commitment to multi-disciplinary teamwork.
