About the position

The Pre-Award Program Manager at Notre Dame Research Administration and Compliance (NDRAC) plays a crucial role in supporting faculty and students in developing, assembling, and submitting proposals for external funding. This position involves managing a portfolio of principal investigators, assisting in proposal preparation, and ensuring compliance with funding agency guidelines. The role requires a detail-oriented professional who can work independently and collaboratively, providing a seamless customer service experience throughout the research lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Draft proposal budgets and justifications.
  • Obtain clearances on cost share commitments and other requests for organizational support.
  • Respond to application inquiries and meet with faculty and administrators to review proposal guidelines.
  • Prepare non-scientific and programmatic aspects of proposals.
  • Identify when additional approvals or consultation are required among functional teams on federal compliance, IRB, IACUC, Export Control, and more.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; equivalent combination of education and significant relevant experience will be considered.
  • 1 to 2 years of professional work experience for Level I; 3 to 4 years for Level II; 5 to 6 years for Level III in research or sponsored program administration in higher education or similar research environment.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret federal and non-federal regulations.
  • Proficiency in navigating multiple computer-based internal and external research administration systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills; robust time and project management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure of internal and external deadlines and convey confidence to stakeholders.
  • Proven track record in facilitating organizational efficiencies and delivering improved customer service.

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters or terminal degree.
  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA) or Certified Pre-Award Research Administrator certification preferred but not required.
  • Project management certification is desirable.
