Pre-Construction Senior Estimator

About the position

The Preconstruction Senior Estimator is a leadership role that combines estimating responsibilities with day-to-day management duties. This position is designed for an experienced estimator who is willing to lead and mentor other team members. The Senior Estimator will manage the workload pipeline, support the pre-construction team, and engage in recruitment and training activities. They will also be responsible for developing estimates for Building Automation projects and ensuring that all estimates are technically compatible and competitive.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor the PreCon team members.
• Manage day-to-day activities of local pre-con resources.
• Assign work based on team members' bandwidth and experience.
• Assist sales in project qualification and prioritization.
• Provide process and technical coaching for team members.
• Advocate for new initiatives within the PreCon organization.
• Support the rollout of new initiatives and communicate with the local Branch team.
• Attend branch meetings to understand strategy and support planning.
• Obtain feedback from local operations and sales teams for employee development.
• Develop turnkey estimates for Building Automation projects.
• Review customer specifications and drawings for compatibility and competitiveness.
• Coordinate and verify subcontractor quotations and scopes of work.
• Develop detailed scope letters and optimal system designs.
• Attend and run pre-bid meetings and site walk-throughs for potential projects.
• Consult with operations, engineering, and sales groups during the tendering process.
• Reconcile final job costs after project review meetings.
• Support sales calls as needed.
• Develop and maintain subcontractor and vendor relationships.
• Effectively turnover projects to the operations team after award.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Senior Estimator or similar role in pre-construction.
• Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Technical knowledge of Building Automation systems and estimating processes.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in recruitment and interviewing processes.
• Familiarity with project management software.
• Knowledge of local market conditions and subcontractor capabilities.
