About the position

The Pre-Employment Career Counselor will work with students and schools to implement pre-employment transition services aimed at helping youth with disabilities gain competitive employment in community-integrated settings. This role involves planning and executing various activities that provide vocational rehabilitation services, focusing on job exploration, work-based learning, post-secondary education opportunities, workplace readiness, and self-advocacy instruction.

Responsibilities

• Onboard and determine eligibility for students to participate in the Pre-Employment Transition Services.
• Meet with students individually and in groups to discuss their vocational interests and tailor services accordingly.
• Conduct interest inventories to help students determine career pathways to explore.
• Examine labor market research and provide information on different career pathways to students.
• Ensure students have opportunities to participate in job shadows, work experiences, and other work-based learning.
• Provide information, counseling, and guidance on transition and post-secondary programs.
• Foster self-advocacy in students by developing their knowledge of self, rights and responsibilities, communication skills, and leadership skills.
• Provide comprehensive workplace readiness training to improve students' vocational skills.
• Serve as a liaison with Local Education Agencies regarding referrals and provide technical assistance related to Pre-Employment Transition Services.

Requirements

• Experience working with students and youth with disabilities.
• Knowledge of vocational rehabilitation services and transition programs.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to develop and implement training and curriculum materials.
• Experience in conducting interest inventories and labor market research.
