About the position

The Manufacturing Internship is an entry-level opportunity where you will be responsible for preparing electronic, electrical, and mechanical sub-assemblies, final assemblies, and after assemblies in their entirety. Ideal candidates are Freshmen or Sophomore students entered into a Bachelor's Engineering degree program. Part-Time during spring semester and full-time during summer/winter break.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the general direction of the department supervisor with a minimum of supervision
  • Under specific direction from Supervisor or Lead Person perform motor sub-assembly, assembly and after assembly utilizing individual electronic, electrical and mechanical components
  • Responsible for product quality as well as production quantity
  • Use calibrated measuring equipment in the normal performance of the job such as calipers, plug gauges, drop indicators, force gauges, torque measuring screwdrivers, oscilloscope, dial gauges, torque wrenches, micrometers, and specially designed PMT manufactured measuring equipment
  • Assemble individual electronic, electrical and mechanical components as required from the specific engineering bill of material to produce sub-assemblies, final motor assemblies and after assemblies
  • Utilize manual hydraulic, air presses, and electric presses, balancing machine, magnet charger, encoder testers puma, soldering equipment, desoldering equipment, digital voltmeter and other test equipment
  • Assemble individual motor parts and components to produce final motor assemblies
  • Operate motor run-in equipment
  • Form leads, terminals, and lead wire assemblies and sub-assemblies
  • Assemble encoders, brakes, pulleys, and lead assemblies to finished motors
  • Solder individual electrical and electronic components into sub-assemblies, after assemblies and final assemblies
  • The position requires the use of light hand assembly tools
  • Final test motor

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • 1 year completed of college level coursework preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong math skills and mechanical aptitude required
  • Requires the ability to lift 20+ lbs. occasionally, 10-20 lbs. frequently, and up to 10 lbs. constantly
  • May require standing/sitting for long periods of time, up to 8 hours per day
