About the position

The EC Self-Contained Teacher at Meadow Lane Elementary is responsible for fostering the educational and social development of students with exceptional needs. This role requires a dedicated educator who can create a supportive and engaging classroom environment tailored to the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students. The teacher will follow all relevant rules, policies, and procedures, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. The primary goal is to help students learn essential subject matter and skills that contribute to their overall development. In this position, the teacher will plan a comprehensive program of study that aligns with school, district, and state guidelines. They will establish clear objectives for lessons and communicate these goals effectively to students. The teacher will employ various instructional methods and materials to meet the stated objectives and assess student progress regularly, providing necessary reports to stakeholders. Collaboration with colleagues, students, and parents is essential, as is the ability to maintain a positive classroom environment and manage student behavior effectively. The EC Self-Contained Teacher will also supervise and evaluate the performance of teacher assistants, participate in staff meetings, and contribute to the broader school vision. Continuous professional development is encouraged, and the teacher will perform related duties as assigned by the Principal. This position is ten-month employment and is classified as FLSA exempt, with salary based on the state salary scale.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all rules, policies, and procedures, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to school issues.
  • Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons.
  • Employ instructional methods and materials appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students regularly and provide progress reports as required.
  • Counsel with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and maintain order in the classroom.
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher assistants and evaluate their job performance.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence and participate in the development of the school vision.
  • Attend staff meetings, serve on staff committees, and carry out non-instructional duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education with a valid teaching certificate in North Carolina.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate functional knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office Professional software programs.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and accomplish specific tasks as requested.
  • Demonstrate strong content knowledge and establish effective working relationships.
  • Ability to maintain order and discipline in a classroom and monitor the safety and well-being of students.
  • Comply with confidentiality requirements in local, state, and federal policies and statutes.
  • Physical ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and perform job responsibilities.
