About the position

The Pre-Kindergarten Teacher at Elgin Independent School District is responsible for providing students with engaging learning activities and experiences in core academic subjects. The role aims to support students' intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth, enabling them to develop essential competencies and skills for successful functioning in society.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the district's curriculum requirements and show written evidence of preparation.
  • Prepare lessons that accommodate different student learning styles.
  • Present subject matter according to Texas Education Agency guidelines and district policies.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment based on students' learning needs.
  • Conduct assessments of student learning styles and use results to inform instructional activities.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students as per Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Work with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides and volunteers.
  • Utilize technology to enhance the teaching and learning process.
  • Help students analyze and improve their study methods and habits.
  • Conduct ongoing academic interventions, such as tutoring, to address student deficiencies.
  • Assess student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor approved outside activities.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students and support the school district's mission.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students' development.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students and classroom materials.
  • Assist in selecting instructional materials and equipment.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, and colleagues.
  • Participate in staff development activities to enhance job-related skills.
  • Stay informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for teachers.
  • Compile and maintain required reports and records.
  • Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for the assigned subject and level.
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned.
  • Knowledge of the core academic subject assigned and general knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior effectively.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • At least one year of student teaching or approved internship experience.
