About the position

The Pre-Kindergarten Teacher at Elgin Independent School District is responsible for providing students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in core academic subjects. The role aims to help students fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth, enabling them to develop competencies and skills necessary for successful functioning in society.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency and district policies.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of students' learning styles and needs.
  • Conduct assessments of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students according to IEP guidelines.
  • Collaborate with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides and volunteers.
  • Use technology to enhance the teaching and learning process.
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits through academic interventions.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor approved outside activities.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students' development.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, and colleagues.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for the assigned subject and level.
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned.
  • Knowledge of core academic subject assigned and general knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • At least one year of student teaching or approved internship experience.
