About the position

The Pre-press Mac Designer position at West Rock in Chattanooga is a full-time role focused on facilitating the movement of graphic work through the Pre-press Department. This position operates on a Monday to Friday schedule from 7 am to 3:30 pm. The primary responsibilities include receiving customer artwork from the Project Coordinator or directly from customers, preflighting the art to ensure it meets Offset and Digital Press specifications, and submitting both hard copy and electronic proofs for customer approval. The designer will also communicate with the Project Management Group, Press room, and Finishing departments to ensure accurate file production. In addition to these tasks, the designer will be responsible for RIPing files for production use on offset and digital presses, conducting quality checks, and completing all necessary internal department documentation. Maintaining safety and cleanliness of the equipment and work area is crucial, and the designer is expected to work in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with company policies and procedures. Overtime may be required, and the designer may be assigned additional duties as needed. The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma or GED and have at least one year of industry experience as a Mac Operator or in a similar role involving art design or art file conversion for production printing. Proficiency in using an Apple Mac Pro computer and software such as Adobe Creative Suite, RIP software (preferably Prinergy or similar), and Caldera or similar is essential. The role demands a highly motivated self-starter with great attention to detail, capable of thriving in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED minimum.
  • At least one year of industry experience as a Mac Operator or equivalent experience in art design or art file conversion for production printing.
  • Proficient in using Apple Mac Pro computer and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Proficient in RIP software - preferably Prinergy or similar and Caldera or similar.
  • Proficient Microsoft Office skills including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
