About the position

The Pre Press Manager at Resource Label Group is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing the prepress department's operations, ensuring quality and efficiency in the printing process. This position requires a blend of advanced technical skills, management capabilities, and a thorough understanding of printing processes to enhance productivity and maintain high standards of work. The manager will collaborate with various teams, supervise staff, and implement continuous improvement initiatives to meet production goals and customer expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, plan, organize, and control prepress components for production.
  • Maintain and enhance department metrics to improve standards of work.
  • Monitor and schedule workflow to ensure timelines are met and procedures are followed.
  • Communicate prepress schedules to customer service, sales, and production teams.
  • Collaborate with prepress operators and other departments to resolve artwork issues.
  • Supervise pre-press operators to ensure compliance with standard operating procedures.
  • Address production concerns and technical challenges with the operations team.
  • Prioritize jobs in collaboration with Sales, Operations, and Customer Service.
  • Interact with external customers to clarify artwork and accommodate special requirements.
  • Stay updated on technology and recommend equipment and software changes.
  • Establish procedures for archiving files and machine maintenance.
  • Manage the plate department and improve job flow efficiency.
  • Maintain inventory levels in the pre-press and plate room.
  • Conduct performance reviews for prepress technicians and plate room staff.
  • Collaborate with HR on staff development and training plans.
  • Ensure the work area is tidy and compliant with health and safety policies.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary Diploma in Electronic Prepress Operations, Graphics Design, or Printing Prepress Technology, or a minimum of ten years related experience.
  • Proficiency in specific art software and an in-depth understanding of various printing processes.
  • Strong proficiency in software related to Prepress, especially Esko software (ver.22+).
  • Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Word and Excel for documentation.
  • Mathematical measurement skills and analytical problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven ability to manage teams and excellent communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a managerial role is preferred.
  • Knowledge of EFI Radius ERP is an asset.
  • Experience in Print/Label industry is considered an asset.
