About the position

The Pre-Registration Scheduling Specialist is responsible for pre-registration, insurance verifications, and rescheduling for multiple departments including physician offices within Berkshire Health Systems and Berkshire Faculty Services. He/She will maintain excellent customer service in accordance with standards of Berkshire Health Systems. Duties include analyzing patient or MD requests and coordinating accurate instruction and information exchange through inbound and outbound communication while following privacy guidelines. The specialist will identify and determine the order of appropriate insurance(s) (Medical, Work Comp, Legal, or Client Billing) listed on the account using one or more verification programs. They will translate accurate payer eligibility returns to aid Patient Accounts in the prevention of bad debt or denials before the time of billing. Additionally, the specialist will enter accurate ICD 9 Code(s) when scheduling and rescheduling and follow strict federal medical necessity standards. Responsibilities also include performing registration, authorization/referral retrieval for outpatient testing/appointments, and mailing duties for departments as needed.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • 1-year clinical experience preferred.
  • Medical Terminology required.
  • Strong skills in telephone and written communications required.
  • Demonstrated customer service focus required.
  • Basic computer skills required with proven typing ability.
  • Experience in a hospital environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of outpatient tests, procedures, and appointment types preferred.
  • Previous experience in hospital Meditech Scheduling and Admitting functions preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Two years of college or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Ability to understand and speak Spanish is desired.
