About the position

The Pre-Release Career Coach plays a vital role in supporting individuals transitioning from prison to society by facilitating education and employment training within a correctional facility. This position is centered around preparing participants for successful job placement, retention, and promotion, ensuring they have the necessary skills and support to thrive post-release. The Career Coach will conduct impactful group sessions, maintain consistent communication with participants, and deliver high-quality educational and employment curricula tailored to the needs of the participants. In this role, the Career Coach is responsible for upholding the quality and fidelity of the Re-entry Model curriculum during group sessions. Preparation for these sessions involves reviewing curriculum materials and participant case notes to ensure that each session is effective and relevant. Building a trusting relationship with participants is crucial, as it facilitates a smoother transition to post-release services. The Career Coach will also document participant interactions, progress, and challenges in an electronic record system, ensuring accurate tracking of each participant's journey. Collaboration is key in this role, as the Career Coach will work closely with the participants' care teams, including case managers and therapists, to coordinate services and deliver holistic care. Regular attendance at team meetings and training sessions is expected to foster a collaborative environment and enhance service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitating excellent participant programming through impactful group sessions.
  • Maintaining frequent and supportive communication with participants.
  • Delivering high-quality education and employment curriculum to participants.
  • Upholding the quality and fidelity of the Re-entry Model curriculum during group sessions.
  • Preparing for sessions by reviewing curriculum and participant case notes.
  • Building a bond of trust with participants to ensure a smooth transition to post-release services.
  • Documenting participant interactions, progress, and challenges in the electronic record system.
  • Collaborating closely with participants' care teams, including case managers and therapists, to ensure coordinated services and holistic care delivery.
  • Attending team meetings and trainings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, psychology, human resources, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience delivering workforce development or career coaching to a vulnerable population.
  • Ability to pass DOC security clearance.
  • Driver's license required.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and scheduling software.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Skill in managing multiple schedules and resolving conflicts.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with a diverse team.
  • Collaborative attitude and excitement about working in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Effective communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Commitment to professionalism, integrity, and compassion in all interactions.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPR / Adult First Aid certification preferred.
  • Certified Professional Career Coach certification preferred.
  • Offenders Workforce Development Specialist certification preferred.
