About the position

The Pre-Admission Testing Registered Nurse at Townsen Memorial Hospital is responsible for coordinating the pre-admission testing and assessment process for patients scheduled for invasive or surgical procedures. This role emphasizes compassionate, evidence-based patient care, ensuring that patients are well-prepared for their surgeries by communicating effectively with healthcare providers and managing patient care efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the pre-admission testing and interview/assessment process for patients scheduled for surgery.
• Communicate with providers and their office staff regarding patient testing results.
• Ensure supplies and equipment needed for procedures are available and in good working order.
• Explain nursing procedures to patients to help reduce anxiety.
• Assess patients' physical and mental status before surgery.
• Document patient care accurately in the medical record.
• Implement doctor's orders in a timely and accurate manner.
• Coordinate patient care and provide explanations and teaching to patients and their families.
• Plan for routine events and manage emergent situations effectively.
• Adapt to unexpected changes in patient care needs.
• Participate in performance improvement activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
• Current and unencumbered RN license in the State of Texas.
• Five years of perioperative nursing experience.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification or must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
