About the position

The Preconstruction Manager serves as a member of the project proposal team and the project execution team. The core function of the position is to take ownership of the project execution plan during the bidding phase of projects and to provide continuity to ensure a smooth transition to project execution.

Responsibilities

  • Develop overall execution plan for new renewable power projects.
  • Participate in pre-bid site visits.
  • Interface with in-house engineers and subcontracted EORs to develop conceptual designs to support proposal efforts.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with major subcontractors.
  • Solicit subcontractor bids to support proposals and work with estimators to ensure that subcontractor pricing is accurately reflected in the estimate.
  • Work with estimators, proposal managers, schedulers, procurement, engineering, and BD senior leaders to support development of competitive and compelling proposals for new project opportunities.
  • Assist in EPC contract negotiation with primary focus on scope of work and technical exhibits.
  • Interface directly with EOR, review design drawings, attend drawing review meetings with EOR and Owner, provide feedback on design and drive design optimization.
  • Lead the initial subcontracting process including identifying subcontractors, developing scopes of work, issuing RFPs, reviewing proposals, and negotiating subcontract agreements with support from legal.
  • Hand off project to PM and field team to ensure an orderly transition to execution.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in Procurement/EPC/Development/Legal, working for a renewable energy EPC contractor strongly preferred.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead subcontracting process from RFP through subcontract execution.
  • In-depth knowledge of the construction process including scheduling, contract administration, procurement, manpower planning, etc.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency in estimating and understanding of project budgeting.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and foster positive business relationships.
  • Experience in management of EPC projects.
  • Familiar with critical path management scheduling.
  • Experience managing people and subcontractors.
