About the position

The Premium Auditor/Sr. Premium Auditor position at Selective Insurance involves conducting audits on Property/Casualty Commercial Line policies to ensure accurate earned premiums and compliance with regulations. This role requires both in-person and virtual audits, primarily focusing on small to middle market accounts, with potential for larger accounts under guidance. The position emphasizes the importance of maintaining customer relationships and utilizing automated systems for efficient audit management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, schedule and conduct physical/virtual audits for selected Commercial Lines policies based on auditable exposures.
  • Review the insured's business operations and examine financial/business records.
  • Evaluate subcontractor operations and detail exposures according to manual rules.
  • Verify claims data and determine/develop premium basis and classification.
  • Manage and schedule territory and inventory to optimize efficiencies and meet customer needs.
  • Notify underwriting team of changes in exposures, business operations, and classifications after audit completion.
  • Respond to and resolve audit disputes with guidance from Manager/Senior Auditor.
  • Compile facts related to disputes and prepare amended audits for billing.
  • Maintain positive customer relationships and provide ongoing technical expertise.
  • Utilize automated premium audit work management system and other tools to complete assignments.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of company premium audit policies and procedures.
  • May provide mentoring to newly hired auditors.

Requirements

  • College degree in Insurance, Accounting, Finance or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year Premium Audit experience.
  • Work towards achieving Associate in Premium Auditing 91 (APA 91) and Associate in Premium Auditing 92 (APA 92) is encouraged.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work independently without direct supervision.
  • Proficiency in computer tools including Microsoft Excel and Internet research applications.
  • Ability to climb stairs and carry 20 pounds consistently.
  • Valid state-issued driver's license in good standing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the property/casualty insurance business.
  • Knowledge of insurance manuals and premium audit manuals.
