About the position

The Preowned Sales Director at Berkshire Hathaway Automotive is responsible for overseeing the Used Sales Department, ensuring that performance standards are met in terms of gross profit, volume, and customer satisfaction. This role involves collaborating with the General Manager to plan and execute departmental activities, manage inventory, and develop the sales team to achieve sales targets. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in pre-owned inventory management and a proven track record of sales growth.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with employees and customers to develop relationships and bridge disconnects in the sales process.
  • Hire, train, motivate, counsel, and develop the sales management staff.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings to review operations and communicate effectively.
  • Develop future managers through job growth and performance evaluations; serve as a role model.
  • Maintain lot control and ensure the website is updated with specials and compliant pricing.
  • Review and control departmental expenses.
  • Assist in developing advertising campaigns and promotions for the pre-owned department.
  • Attend and contribute to manager meetings.
  • Stay informed about current market trends and vehicle valuations.
  • Conduct sales meetings to motivate and train sales professionals.
  • Adhere to high ethical standards while maintaining gross profit and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage and lead the used car sales team to meet and exceed sales targets.
  • Develop and execute strategies for inventory optimization, pricing, and merchandising.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and company policies.
  • Collaborate with other departments to drive overall business success.
  • Build rapport with customers to establish a referral network and customer base.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the department.

Requirements

  • 24+ months experience running a pre-owned department in a high-volume car dealership.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Familiarity with inventory tools, preferably VAuto.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills.
  • Ability to communicate, present, and influence effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Sales and trend forecasting abilities.
  • Proven ability to drive the sales process from plan to close.
  • Strong business sense and industry expertise.
  • Excellent mentoring, coaching, and people management skills.
  • Proven track record of achieving goals.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical and data-driven decision-making approach.
  • Customer-centric mindset and commitment to excellence.
  • Strong understanding of inventory control.
  • Strong computer and phone skills (MS Outlook, CRM, Microsoft Office suite).

  • Current, valid driver's license and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).
